When the [[Andhra Pradesh|State of Andhra Pradesh]] was formed in 1951, the Secretariat was located in an old
Nizam structure called Peshi in the capital city of [[Hyderabad]]. The Secretariat functioned like this until the [[Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014|bifurcation of the state]] into [[Andhra Pradesh]] and [[Telangana]]. The building was to be shared in the ratio 58:42 by both the states which will continue till 2024 as per the Act and was to be transferred to Telangana in 2024. However, in February 2016 an interim Secretariat complex was inaugurated in Velagapudi, Amaravati and it started functioning from there [[Government of Andhra Pradesh]].

== Secratariat at Visakhapatnam ==
In July 2020 Andhra Pradesh Governor Biswabhushan Harichandan signed the Andhra Pradesh
Decentralisation and Inclusive Development of All
Regions Act, 2020.
According to section 8 of the Andhra Pradesh
Decentralisation and Inclusive Development of All
Regions Act, 2020, The State Government shall endeavour to locate all the
Institutions of the State, the State Department(s) and the
instrumentalities of the State in the three Capital(s) under Section 7.
Without prejudice to the generality of the foregoing the State shall,
as far as practicable, seek to ensure the following:
(i) The seat of Legislature shall be at the Legislative Capital
of Amaravati;
(ii) The RajBhawan, Secretariat and Offices of the Heads of
the Departments of Government shall be located at the
Executive Capital of Visakhapatnam;
