The fort was originally built by [[Seuna_Yadavas_of_Devagiri#Singhana_II|Singhan II]] (1210–1247 CE) of the [[Seuna Yadavas of Devagiri|Devagiri Yadavs]],<ref name="satara">{{cite web|url=http://www.maharashtra.gov.in/english/gazetteer/SATARA/places_Bhushangad.html|title=Satara District Gazetteer|access-date=2009-02-21}}</ref> with the exact date of its construction not known.
