In the 2015 Municipal Elections, Meer stood as a candidate for the Municipal Board of [[Makum]] under the banner of the [[Indian National Congress]] and has won the election and became Commissioner of Makum Municipal Board. He had a strong bond with the late [[Rameswar Dhanowar]], indicating their close working relationship.
