The Banaut are found mainly in north-eastern [[Bihar]]. They have come originally from [[Orchha|Orcha]] in [[Bundelkhand]]. The community are said to have left Orcha to escape the [[Mughal Empire|Mughal]]s..The Banaut are distributed mainly in ,chouparan , [[Munger district|Munger]], [[Bhagalpur district|Bhagalpur]], [[Purnia district|Purnia]], [[Saharsa district|Saharsa]], [[Katihar district|Katihar]] and [[Araria district|Arariya]].
