At around 15:45 on 7 June 2021, a fire broke out at a [[chemical plant]] on the outskirts of Pune in MIDC area of Urawade-Pirangut. The plant manufactured chemicals and sanitisers.<ref name=B/> At the time of the fire, which occurred approximately 10 miles from the city centre, 37 workers were trapped inside the building.<ref name=B/> Fifteen of the 18 victims were women, and most were residents of [[Mulshi taluka]].
