The 32nd (Imperial Service) Brigade was formed in October 1914,<ref name=Perry119>{{harvnb|Perry|1993|p=119}}</ref> mostly from [[Imperial Service Troops]] (forces raised by the [[princely state]]s of the [[British Raj|British Indian Empire]]), hence its name.<ref name=Perry120>{{harvnb|Perry|1993|p=120}}</ref> It joined the [[11th Indian Division]] when it was formed in Egypt on 24 December and served on the [[Suez Canal]] Defences.
