== Political career ==
From 2017 to 2020, Poonia was state president of the [[National Students' Union of India|National Students Union of India]] (NSUI) in Rajasthan. In December 2023, Poonia won the [[Sangaria Assembly constituency|Sangaria assembly]] seat, becoming a [[Member of the Legislative Assembly (India)|Member of the Legislative Assembly]] (MLA) in the [[16th Rajasthan Assembly]].
