He  also worked as  as the  chairman of [[Goods and Services Tax Network|GSTN]], Goods and Services Tax Network, India. from September 2017 to March 2021&lt;br /&gt;

He has been at helm of three major reforms India has witnessed during the last  five years - Aadhaar, GST, Direct Tax Reforms.&lt;br /&gt;

As Finance Secretary  and Revenue Secretary of India, he was responsible for  preparing as many as three annual budgets for the Government of India (in the years  2019, 2020, 2021) and one vote-on-account in  the year  2019. He is also known for bringing  fundamental tax reforms by introducing  faceless assessment and faceless appeal, automated refunds, and having them implemented them through extensive use of technology. He was instrumental in historical reduction of corporate tax in India from 30%  to 22% and for new manufacturing units  to 15% to encourage investments in India. He was also responsible for bringing  amendments  in 2019 to promote digital payments in India. The amendments mandated all businesses in India having an annual turnover of over Rs 50 crore to mandatorily provide UPI based payment facilities to its customers. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
As the Chairman of GSTN, he stabilised the newly introduced GST in India within a short span of three years.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Prior to this, he was the Chief Executive Officer &amp;amp; Director General at the Unique Identification Authority of India (Aadhaar) from September 2015 until October 2019. Under his leadership, he  expanded Aadhaar to give biometric based identity to 1.20  billion Indians. He was instrumental in drafting the Aadhaar Act in 2016 and getting it passed  through Indian Parliament.  He helped bring in various laws pertaining to the use and development of Aadhaar and at  the same time safeguarding privacy for  Indian citizens. He personally argued for two days in March 2018  before the  5-Judge Constitution Bench of Supreme Court in support of Aadhaar and was successful in convincing the Supreme Court on the constitutionality of Aadhaar. He was the final decision maker of the architecture, hardware, software and implementation of Aadhaar in India.&lt;br /&gt;
