Akshay Chandra Chowdhury was born in the affluent [[Andul Dutta Chaudhury Family|Chowdhury family]] of Andul, belonging to [[Bharadwaja|Bharadvaja]] clan. He was the youngest son of Mihir Chandra Chowdhury. He had earned his M.A. degree in English literature from [[Presidency University, Kolkata|Presidency College]] of [[Calcutta]]. He was a lawyer by profession.&lt;br /&gt;

Akshay was a noted contributor to the &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Bharati&amp;#039;&amp;#039; newspaper and also [[Editing|editor]] for some time. His first poem, &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Bharat&amp;#039;&amp;#039;, was published in 1868. His long poem, &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Bharat Gatha&amp;#039;&amp;#039;, narrating the history of India from ancient times up to [[Sepoy mutiny|Sepoy Mutiny]], was published in 1895. However, his longest poem &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Udasini&amp;#039;&amp;#039;, published in 1875, earned him considerable recognition  and praise.{{citation needed|date=July 2016}}&lt;br /&gt;

Akshay was [[Jyotirindranath Tagore]]&amp;#039;s class mate in [[Hindu School, Kolkata|Hindu School]]. Jyotirindranath was the elder brother of [[Rabindranath Tagore]].&lt;br /&gt;

Rabindranath loved to discuss high level [[literature]] with Akshay. Both Akshay and his wife participated in literary discussions that were held in a garden of the [[Jorasanko Thakur Bari|Thakur Bari]]; the garden was later named  &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Nandan Kanan&amp;#039;&amp;#039; by Akshay.&lt;br /&gt;
