It is located {{convert|17|km}} away from postal head office Samundra, {{convert|15|km}} from [[Balachaur]], {{convert|17|km}} from district headquarter Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar and {{convert|85.6|km}} from state capital [[Chandigarh]]. == Demography ==
As of 2011, Alowal has a total number of 43 houses and population of 217 of which 119 include are males while 98 are females according to the report published by [[2011 Census of India|Census India in 2011]]. The [[Literacy|literacy rate]] of Alowal is 72.92%, lower than the state average of 75.84%. The population of children under the age of 6 years is 25 which is 11.52% of total population of Alowal, and [[child sex ratio]] is approximately 667 as compared to Punjab state average of 846.<ref name=census /><ref>{{cite web|url=http://pib.nic.in/newsite/PrintRelease.aspx?relid=103437|title=Child Sex Ratio in India (2001-2011)|work=pib.nic.in}}</ref>

Most of the people are from [[Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes|Schedule Caste]] which constitutes 92.17% of total population in Alowal. The town does not have any [[Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes|Schedule Tribe]] population so far.<ref name=census />
