Alur is situated 17 km from [[National Highway 9 (India)|NH-9]] on the Akkalkot–Omerga road. It was formerly a border village of [[Hyderabad State|Hyderabad]]. Under the Nizam, it had a ''naka'' to collect taxes.{{Citation needed|reason=naka means dissent or a veto|date=May 2013}}
