Her brother Barjinder Shingh was chairman of the Central Board of Direct Taxes while her sister Surinder Kaur retired as an [[Internal Revenue Service|IRS]] officer.Her husband VN Tewari was a professor at the [[Punjab University]]. Amrit Kaur Tewari passed away on January 15, 2018 due to prolonged illness.
