The first Amrita School of Medicine was founded in 2002 by [[Mata Amritanandamayi|Mata Amritanandamayi Devi]], a spiritual leader and humanitarian in [[Kochi]], Kerala. The Amrita Schools of Medicine offer undergraduate and postgraduate medical programs. The undergraduate programs are five-year, [[Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery|MBBS]] programs that lead to the Doctor of Medicine degree.
