''Annakili'' was released on 14 May 1976 with a reel length of {{Convert|3654|metres|feet}} and became a commercial success at box office. The film was screened at the Indian Panorama section of the [[International Film Festival of India]] in 1978. It was remade in [[Telugu language|Telugu]] as ''Rama Chilaka'' (1978).

== Plot ==
The movie revolves around Annakili, who falls in love with teacher Thyagarajan. Due to circumstances, Thyagarajan marries another girl. Azhagappan, a womaniser creates a misunderstanding about Annakili among the villagers; the rest of the film shows how Annakili proves her innocence.
