Mustafi was born at [[Bagbazar]], [[Kolkata]], [[British India]] in 1850. He studied in the [[Hare School]]. Mustafi first performed in 1867 in a satire drama &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Kichhu Kichhu Bujhi&amp;#039;&amp;#039; at [[Pathuriaghata]] Royal palace. He joined Bagbazar Amateur Theater group and performed in &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Sadhabar Ekadashi&amp;#039;&amp;#039;, written by novelist [[Dinabandhu Mitra]]. [[Amrita Lal Basu]] described Mustafi as &amp;#039;An actor made by God&amp;#039; because he could perform different type of characters in a play.
