== Political career ==
Arif was elected as a member of the [[Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly]] for the first time in the general elections of 2007. Arif participated in public movements many times, and in the year 1996, he was imprisoned in district jail in Gonda under Section 151 during the 'Raj Bhawan Gheron' movement. == 2023 arrest ==
On June 18, 2023, [[Uttar Pradesh Police|UP Police]] arrested Arif Anwar Hashmi and sent him to jail in judicial custody.
