Maurya became the first woman [[Member of Legislative Assembly]] from Mahmoodabad Assembly constituency of Uttar Pradesh by defeating six time MLA, Nagendra Singh Verma, who also served as cabinet minister in [[Government of Uttar Pradesh]].
