Mehta was born in [[Yangon|Rangoon]], Burma, where his parents owned a business.<ref name=CM/> A batsman and leg-spin bowler, he played [[Ranji Trophy]] cricket for [[Saurashtra cricket team|Saurashtra]], [[Mumbai cricket team|Bombay]] and [[Gujarat cricket team|Gujarat]].
