According to the Embassy of India in Vienna, India exported goods worth €558.72 million in 2011, which was an increase of 210% in the first decade of the twenty-first century. Austria is an unknown entity for the majority of Indians.

The 1959 Academy awards winning musical [[The Sound of Music]], extremely popular among the minority Anglo-Indian anglophone population, has led to Austria being associated with Germany and Switzerland.
