&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;Bācamāḍa Ḍevaiah Gaṇapati&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039; (1920–1997) was an Indian writer, scholar and journalist writing in English, [[Kannada]] and [[Kodava Takk]], covering religion, anthropology and philosophy. Ganapathy was born in Besagoor village in Coorg in 1920.&amp;lt;ref&amp;gt;{{cite web |url=http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n81114543.html |title=Ganapathy, B. D. |website=Library of Congress |accessdate=13 June 2017}}&amp;lt;/ref&amp;gt; He was a journalist for a newspaper in [[Karnataka]] state, and author of several books on Kodavas and other subjects in Kodava Takk, Kannada and English languages.&lt;br /&gt;

==Indian Independence Movement==&lt;br /&gt;
During the Indian Independence Movement, he was the sub-editor of the &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Kodagu&amp;#039;&amp;#039;, a pro-Independence weekly Kannada newspaper founded by his father-in-law, editor and freedom fighter Pandyanda I. Belliappa, who was known as Kodagu&amp;#039;s Gandhi. In 1942 the  British India authorities restricted the publication of the &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Kodagu&amp;#039;&amp;#039; weekly and had B. D. Ganapathy imprisoned along with his father-in-law.{{cn|date=January 2017}}&lt;br /&gt;

Among Ganapathy&amp;#039;s most noted works is his 1967 &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Kodavas (Coorgs), their customs and culture&amp;#039;&amp;#039; published by the Kodagu Ltd., also called the Coorg company, which owned the &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Kodagu&amp;#039;&amp;#039; weekly. Other works include: &amp;#039;&amp;#039;The Eternal Quest&amp;#039;&amp;#039; (1970), &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Naṅga Koḍava&amp;#039;&amp;#039; (1973 in Kodava takk), &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Kodavas&amp;#039;&amp;#039; (1980) and &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Kanni Kāvēri&amp;#039;&amp;#039; (1990 in Kodava Takk). Among his works two books are in the Kodava Language: &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Nanga Kodava&amp;#039;&amp;#039; and &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Kuttambolicha&amp;#039;&amp;#039;. His Kannada book on Kodava culture &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Kodagu mattu Kodavaru&amp;#039;&amp;#039; has won him the State Academy Award. Recently, efforts are being made to foster Kodava literature and for the same purpose the Kodava Thak Parishat was established in 1978. The first conference was presided over by B. D.
