Ekbal is an activist of [[Kerala Sastra Sahitya Parishad]] and has held various offices in the organisation{{citation needed|date=February 2020}}. He was the President of Kerala Sastra Sahithya Parishad from 1983 to 1985{{citation needed|date=February 2020}}. He was former editor of the online Science Journal of Kerala Sastra Sahithya Parishad: www.luca.co.in.
