Yavagal received his [[Bachelor of Science|Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.)]] degree from [[Karnatak University]] and [[Bachelor of Laws|Bachelor of Law (LL.B)]] degree from University College of Law, Dharwad.&amp;lt;ref&amp;gt;{{Cite web |url=http://myneta.info/karnataka2013/candidate.php?candidate_id=14 |title=B R Yavagal - Information |website=myneta.info |access-date=2018-02-23}}&amp;lt;/ref&amp;gt; Afterwards, Yavagal enrolled himself as an Advocate with Karnataka Bar Council in 1971. He practiced law majorly in public interest litigations concerning farmers issues. Yavagal started his political career with [[Janata Party]].
