The sanctuary includes nine tribal villages. The sanctuary harbours large diversity of [[endemic]] &amp;amp; specialised [[flora]] and [[fauna]]. Sanctuary is home to the state animal of Maharashtra- Ratufa indica elphistonii, sub species of the [[Indian giant squirrel|Indian Giant squirrel]] that is one of three threatened Indo-Malyan squirrel species.  The particular sub species found here is endemic to Bhimashankar. Important mammals reported from the sanctuary are [[carnivores]] like Leopard Panthera pardus, and [[Golden Jackal]] (&amp;#039;&amp;#039;Canis aureus&amp;#039;&amp;#039;), [[Sambar deer|Sambar]] (&amp;#039;&amp;#039;Cervus unicolor&amp;#039;&amp;#039;), [[Barking Deer]] (&amp;#039;&amp;#039;Muntiacus muntjak&amp;#039;&amp;#039;), [[Wild boar|Wildboar]] (&amp;#039;&amp;#039;Sus scrofa&amp;#039;&amp;#039;), [[Common Langur]] (&amp;#039;&amp;#039;Semnopithecus entellus&amp;#039;&amp;#039;), [[Rhesus Macaque]] (&amp;#039;&amp;#039;Macaca mulatta&amp;#039;&amp;#039;) and the [[Mouse Deer]] (&amp;#039;&amp;#039;Moschiola meminna&amp;#039;&amp;#039;). The Indian [[Pangolin]] (&amp;#039;&amp;#039;Manis crassicaudata&amp;#039;&amp;#039;) is also reported. Sanctuary is rich in specialised and endemic [[reptiles]], [[amphibians]], [[butterflies]] and [[insects]]. During the monsoon (rainy season), various species of [[mosses]] and [[epiphytes]] including bioluminescent fungi can be seen on the trees.&lt;br /&gt;
