Teams participate in a series of 12 established [[Vallam kali|traditional boat races]]<ref name=":1">{{Cite web |title=Champions Boat League {{!}} Boat Races |url=https://www.keralatourism.org/event/champions-boat-league/113 |access-date=2022-10-12 |website=Kerala Tourism |language=en}}</ref> to compete for the top spots.
