== Early life and background ==

Shri Rahim Khan was born to Shri Nawaz Khan on 1 February 1923. He was born in his village of Sultanpur in [[Punahana|Punahana, Haryana]]. He was an [[Meo (ethnic group)|ethnic Meo]]. He was an [[agriculturist]] as well as a [[Social work|political and social worker]]. He served formerly as a member of the [[Indian Armed Forces|armed forces of India]]. He was rendered overseas in the [[Burma campaign|Burma Campaign in 1945]] during [[World War II]] and was also awarded [[War Medal|war medal]] for his service.<ref name=":0" />

He married Shrimati Budho and had 3 sons and 4 daughters. He is the patriarch of the [[Political families of Haryana#Shri Rahim Khan Clan of Mewat|Shri Rahim Khan Clan]] which is the most prominent of all the [[Political families of Haryana|political families]] in [[Mewat]]. Two of his notable sons are [[Nayab Sahab|Chaudhary Habib Ur Rehman]] and [[Chaudhary Mohd Ilyas|Chaudhary Mohammad Ilyas]] both of whom inherited his political legacy.

His brother Chaudhary Sardar Khan served as a [[Member of the Legislative Assembly (India)|Member of Legislative Assembly]] from the [[Nuh Assembly constituency|Nuh (Vidhan Sabha Constituency)]] and worked as Deputy Home Minister in the [[Government of Haryana|Government of Haryana]] (1977-1982).<ref name=":1" />

== Political career ==
Shri Rahim Khan served as the Deputy Minister for Technical Education and Wakf in [[Government of Haryana]] (1967). He also served as the Minister of State for Irrigation and Power, Wakf and, Fisheries in [[Government of Haryana]] (1982). He was the President of the Congress Committee Mandal, Bisru, [[Pinangwan|Pinangawan]] till March 1967. He was also a member of District Congress Committee of [[Gurgaon district|Gurgaon]] (1958–59). He was the Chairman of the Block Samiti, [[Punahana]] (1965-1967). He was a [[Sarpanch]] from the [[Gram panchayat|Gram Panchayat]] of [[Punahana|Sultanpur-Punahana]] (1953-1967).

He was the Chairman of the Mewat Cooperative Marketing Society (1961-1962). He was also the Director of the District Whole-sale Cooperative Marketing Society, [[Gurgaon district|Gurgaon]] (1963) and later became it's Chairman (1963-1967). He was also the Director of the Mewat Cooperative Marketing Society, [[Ferozepur Jhirka]] (1960) and Mewat Marketing Society, [[Ferozepur Jhirka]] (1960). He was the Administrator of the [http://hafed.gov.in/ Haryana Cooperative Marketing and Supply Federation], [[Chandigarh]] (1978-1979).

He was also a member of the Sub-Divisional Advisory Committee in the Sub-Division [[Ferozepur Jhirka]] (1962) and the District Advisory Committee (1965-1967). He was also a member of the [[Central Waqf Council|Punjab Wakf Board, Ambala Cantt]] (1978–81) and member of the [[Public Distribution System (India)|Surplus Committee]] in the Sub-Division of [[Ferozepur Jhirka]] (1978-1984). He was a member of the District Red Cross Society in the [[Gurgaon district|Gurgaon District]] (1981). He was a member of the Airman and Soldier Board in the [[Gurgaon district|Gurgaon District]] (1980). He also served as a Member of the [[Haryana Legislative Assembly]] 3 times in (1967–72), (1972–74) and (1982-84) respectively. He later won the 1984 Lok Sabha Elections and became Member of Parliament in the lower house of the Indian Parliament. His contribution to the [[Meo (ethnic group)|Meo community]] is said to be extremely profound. Shri Rahim Khan was the President of the All India Meo Sabha, which was responsible for uniting the 'Meo Samaj' ([[Meo (ethnic group)|Mewati people]]) that were scattered across [[Haryana]], [[Rajasthan]] and [[Uttar Pradesh]], post [[Indian independence movement|independence]]. He was also the President of the All Mewat, All India Education and Development Society, as well as the Employees Provident Fund Union, Haryana Regional Office, [[Faridabad|N.l.T. Faridabad]]. He was also the manager of Ch. Mohd. Yasin Khan Meo High School, Nuh (1967). He was a Member of the Mewat Education Board and the Angling and Aquatic Conservation Society of India, Badkhal, [[Faridabad]]. He has also published the book, "Writing History of Meos".<ref name=":0" />
