The temple is maintained by ''Vinjhana Vardhini Sabha'' (V. V Sabha). This temple is the one and only temple in Asia which is chathurmukha kovil(sree kovil with four side doors) It also known as ''Malayala palani'' മലയാള പഴനി or ''[[Muruga]] Temple''. the main god is subrahmanyan, but the name of the temple is dedicated for sreegowreeswaran (sivan= father of subrahnanyan). The ''Cherai Gowreeshwara Temple festival'' is one of the main festivals in the Eranakulam district. The festival happens every year towards the last 2 weeks of January or first 2 weeks of February. The main attractions are [[Pooram|caparisoned elephant march]] (around 20-30 elephants).<br />
