It is also the headquarters of [[Chinnasalem Taluk]].It is the second fastest growing town in Kallakurichi district. It is a center place in Chennai – Coimbatore cities. It has nearly 76 rice mills, which are the major source of employment. There are thousand no of paddy harvesters who are going to cultivate paddy in all over Tamil Nadu and other south Indian states.
