== Early life and education ==
Johhson was born in [[Gary, Indiana]]. == Career ==
From 1980 to 1985, Johnson served as a trial attorney in the [[United States Department of Justice Civil Rights Division]]. He then joined the [[United States District Court for the Northern District of Indiana|Northern District of Indiana]] as an [[Assistant United States Attorney]] in 1986. He served as the chief of the Civil Division from 1997 to 2010, first assistant United States attorney from 2010 to 2020, and acting United States attorney for several months in 2017, succeeding [[David A. Capp]].
