== History ==
The Coimbatore City Police was formed in 1972 after the bifurcation of the existing Coimbatore Police Force into the ''Coimbatore Urban Police'' and the ''Coimbatore Rural Police''.<ref name="history70">{{Cite web |title=History of Coimbatore City Police [1970s] |url=http://www.coimbatorecitypolice.com/ccp-history.php |publisher=Coimbatore City Police |access-date=2014-01-28 |url-status=dead |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20140121220343/http://www.coimbatorecitypolice.com/ccp-history.php |archive-date=2014-01-21 }}</ref> In 1982–1983, the Police Commissionerate of Coimbatore city was mooted in order to help combat crime.
