==Etymology==
According to Richard M. Eaton, the name ''Cumbala Hill'' likely derives from [[Kambaata people|Kambata in Ethiopia]] from where enslaved African [[Siddi|Habshis]] were brought to India in medieval times.<ref>{{cite book |last1=Eaton |first1=Richard M. |title=A Social History of the Deccan, 1300-1761: Eight Indian Lives |date=2005 |publisher=Cambridge University Press |isbn=978-0-521-25484-7 |pages=108 |url=https://books.google.com/books?id=cGd2huLXEVYC&pg=PA108 |accessdate=7 June 2020 |language=en}}</ref>
