A northward extension from Dum Dum to Dakshineswar (6.20 km [3.85 mi]) was sanctioned and included in the 2010–11 budget at a cost of [[Indian rupee|₹]]227.53 [[crore]] (equivalent to ₹411 crore or US$58 million in 2019). The station is located in [[Dakshineswar]], [[North 24 Parganas]], on [[State Highway 2 (West Bengal)|PWD Road]] (Sitaramdas Omkarnath Sarani) and Ramakrishna Paramahansa Deb Road Crossing.
