&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;Damau&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039; (also &amp;#039;&amp;#039;damaun&amp;#039;&amp;#039;, &amp;#039;&amp;#039;dhamu&amp;#039;&amp;#039; or &amp;#039;&amp;#039;dhmuva&amp;#039;&amp;#039;) is a single-headed drum instrument that is played extensively in the [[Music of Uttarakhand|folk music of Uttarakhand]] in India. It is usually played along with the larger drum, the [[dhol]], according to the ancient oral treatise of &amp;#039;&amp;#039;[[Dhol Sagar]]&amp;#039;&amp;#039;, which lists specific rhythm patterns for every occasion in life, including christening, wedding, religious festivals, folk drama and death rituals.&amp;lt;ref&amp;gt;Andrew Alter: &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Controlling Time in Epic Performances: An Examination of Mahābhārata Performance in the Central Himalayas and Indonesia&amp;#039;&amp;#039;.
