'''Danapur railway station''', station code '''DNR''', is a large railway station<ref name="raildrishti"/> and headquarters of [[Danapur railway division]] of [[East Central Railway zone|East Central Railway]]. Danapur is connected to [[metropolitan area]]s of India by the [[Howrah–Delhi main line|Delhi–Kolkata main line]] via [[Patna–Mughalsarai section|Mughalsarai–Patna]] route. It is in [[Danapur]] city, in [[Patna district]] in the Indian state of [[Bihar]].

Due to its location on the [[Howrah–Patna–Mughalsarai main line]], many [[Patna Junction railway station|Patna]] and [[Barauni Junction railway station|Barauni]]-bound express trains coming from [[Howrah railway station|Howrah]] and {{stnlnk|Sealdah}} stop here. It lies between {{stnlnk|Neora}} to the west and {{stnlnk|Phulwari Sharif}} to the east. Another line branches north-eastwards from Danapur and joins [[Patna–Sonepur–Hajipur section|Patna–Sonepur line]] at {{stnlnk|Patliputra Junction}}.

There are refreshment rooms, vegetarian and non-vegetarian food stall, tea stall, book stall, post and telegraphic office, telephone booth, [[Government Railway Police]] (GRP) office and [[Railway Protection Force]] (RPF) barracks.

Recently Danapur station has been redesigned with [[street art]] motifs on its façade, dedicated to the famous mathematician born in Bihar, [[Aryabhata]].<ref name="winnerhands"/>

== Electrification ==
Danapur station was electrified in March 2000 and passed the [[Commission of Railway Safety|CRS]] inspection on 14 September 2000.<ref name="irfca"/> Sector-wise electrification was as follows: {{stnlnk|Fatuha Junction||Fatuha}} – Danapur between 1999–2000 and Danapur – {{stnlnk|Dildarnagar Junction||Dildarnagar}} between 2001 and 2002.<ref name="irfca"/>

There are 6 platforms at Danapur. The platforms are interconnected with three [[foot overbridge]] (FOB). Newly developed platform Nº 6 is not in sequence. It is situated in line of platform Nº 1 towards Patna Jn.

== Construction ==
[[East Central Railway]] has built a new platform<ref>{{Cite web|url=https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/patna/one-more-platform-at-danapur-station-soon/articleshow/62937238.cms|title=One more platform at Danapur station soon|website=The Times of India|access-date=2019-02-18}}</ref> close to platform number 1 at the Danapur station for arrival and departure of passenger trains, either originating from or going towards Patliputra Junction. The new platform has provisions to accommodate passenger trains with a load combination of 24 coaches. Although a spacious area has been earmarked for parking vehicles and auto rickshaws in the circulating area of the new station building, the railways is yet to complete the circulating area.

The railways has also decided to build a refreshment room and two retiring rooms at the Danapur station for passengers’ conveniences.
