He was a Hindu, probably of humble origin and was trained by the Persian master [[Abd al-Samad|Khwāja ʿAbd al-Ṣamad]]. Of the large number of painters who worked in the imperial atelier, Daswanth and [[Basawan|Basāvan]] were documented by name.<br />
