Housed in the Government Higher Secondary School Building, it began its educational pursuits in the evening shift with four one-man departments of English, Hindi, Economics and History and with a handful of students. It shifted to its own building complex on its permanent site in 1986. The college is located centrally in the Vivek Vihar sector of the town; it has an area of {{convert|80|acre|m2}}. Since its inception it had been imparting education with day and night shifts till 1990, when the night shift was abolished.{{citation needed|date=June 2020}}<br />
