==Military career==
Educated at Wolstanton Grammar School and the [[Royal Military Academy Sandhurst]],<ref name=debrett>Debrett's People of Today 1994</ref> Boorman was [[Officer (armed forces)|commissioned]] into the [[North Staffordshire Regiment]] in 1950.<ref>{{London Gazette|issue=39017|supp=y|page=4637|date=15 September 1950}}</ref> He was Deputy Assistant Adjutant and Quartermaster General at Headquarters 48th Gurkha Infantry Brigade and subsequently [[Commander]] of [[51st Infantry Brigade (United Kingdom)|51st Brigade]] in [[Hong Kong]].<ref>[http://www.6thgurkhas.org/website/regiment-history/1977-1994 6th Gurkhas History 1977–1994]</ref>
