==Origin==<br />
The word ''dharkar'' comes from the [[Hindi language|Hindi]] words ''dhar'', meaning rope, and ''kar'', meaning manufacturer. This denotes their traditional occupation of rope-making. The Dharkar are found mainly in purvanchal district. A small number are also found in the districts of [[Azamgarh District|Gazipur, Azamgarh]], [[Allahabad District|Allahabad]], [[Gonda district|Gonda]] and [[Gorakhpur district|Gorakhpur]]. ==Present circumstances==<br />
They are sub divided into two sub castes that is Benbanshi and Karush. They consider each other equal. They have changed from their pasts now they are government employed and only few of them do their traditional business. Some of them are high scale officers also. They have estates also.<br />
