The &amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;Dhedh&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039; are the weaving caste of India. Historically, certain [[Forward caste|Upper Caste]] Hindu communities have not considered them to be an [[Untouchability|untouchable]] group, outside the [[Hinduism|Hindu]] ritual ranking system known as [[Varna (Hinduism)|varna]]. In the 1930s-40s, many [[Dalit|depressed classes]] and communities were active in trying to change their caste name and elevate their social status to that of [[Rajput]]. These included the [[Khalpa]], who wanted to be known as &amp;#039;&amp;#039;[[Rohit (caste)|Rohit]]&amp;#039;&amp;#039;, and the  [[Bhangi]]&amp;#039;s desire to be known as &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Rishi&amp;#039;&amp;#039;, as well as the Vankar claim to &amp;#039;&amp;#039;[[Mahyavanshi]]&amp;#039;&amp;#039; status.
