Diganta Barman was born on 26 November 1964 to [[Bhumidhar Barman]] and Malati Barman.<ref>{{Cite web|title=Who's Who|url=http://assamassembly.gov.in/bhumidhar-barman-2011.html|access-date=2021-08-19|website=assamassembly.gov.in}}</ref> His father was a former [[List of chief ministers of Assam|Chief Minister]] who also served as Member of [[Assam Legislative Assembly]] for [[Barkhetry (Vidhan Sabha constituency)|Barkhetry]]. He has 3 sisters. He is a Bachelor of Arts from Gauhati University in the year 1987.<br />

== Politicial career ==<br />
Barman was the Indian National Congress candidate for Member of [[Assam Legislative Assembly]] for [[Barkhetry (Vidhan Sabha constituency)|Barkhetry]] in 2016. He lost to the [[Bharatiya Janata Party|Bharatiya Janata party]]’s choice [[Narayan Deka]], Barman got 60,610 while Deka got 69,223 votes in [[2016 Assam Legislative Assembly election|2016]].
