Patnaik served as India's Ambassador to [[Cambodia–India relations|Cambodia]] from September 2012 to August 2015, then to [[India–Morocco relations|Morocco]] between September 2015 and August 2016. He then worked as Deputy High Commissioner of [[India–United Kingdom relations|India in the United Kingdom]] between November 2018 and July 2019.
