== Biography ==

K. Podder]] and obtained a doctoral degree (PhD) in molecular biology from the [[Indian Institute of Science]] in 1973, after which he started his career as a faculty member at the School of Life Sciences of [[University of Hyderabad]] in 1978. This was followed by a stint at [[Albert Einstein College of Medicine]] and at [[Stony Brook University]], for his post-doctoral research, and Chatterji returned to India in 1999 to join the [[Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology]] (CCMB), Hyderabad as a research assistant before moving to the Molecular Biophysics Unit of IISc where he became the chair of the Biology and Genetics Unit, a post he held till 2005.<ref name="IISc genome expression expert gets Padma Shri" />
