Ongole district was created in 1970 with three revenue divisions of Kurnool, Guntur and Nellore districts. In 1972, it was renamed Prakasam district in memory of [[Tanguturi Prakasam]], freedom fighter, chief Minister of undivided Madras state and the first chief minister of Andhra Pradesh. == Geography ==<br />
Donakonda is located at {{coord|15.8333|N|79.4833|E|}} in the Prakasam district. The terrain is mostly flat surrounded by hills some distance away.<br />

== Transport ==<br />
Donakonda Railway Station is situated on the {{rws|Guntur}}-{{rws|Guntakal}} railway line and falls under the [[Guntur railway division|Guntur division]] of [[South Central Railway]]. Donakonda Airport (ICAO: VODK) is located at Donakonda in Andhra Pradesh, India. The airfield was constructed during World War II by the British regime to refuel its aircraft. It is owned by the Airports Authority of India and is now closed. <br />
