The hospital's history dates back to 28 October 1952 when Mr.[[Chandulal Trivedi]],the Governor of Punjab,on behalf of Rai Bahadur Jodhamal Kuthiala,a philanthropist,laid the foundation stone of a TB sanatorium.<ref name="Kangra Medical College Reference1">{{cite news |last1=Arvind |first1=Sharma |title=Tanda Ranked Among Top Medical Colleges Of Country – Hill Post |url=https://hillpost.in/2020/06/tanda-ranks-among-top-medical-colleges/114201/ |access-date=24 February 2021 |publisher=Hillpost |date=29 June 2020}}</ref> The TB sanatorium was inaugurated by [[Rajendra Prasad|Dr.Rajendra Prasad]],the first President of India,on 21 May 1958.<ref name="Kangra Medical College Reference1" /> The 200 bed hospital was the gift by Rai Bahadur to the [[Kangra, Himachal Pradesh|Kangra]] residents.<ref name="Kangra Medical College Reference1" /> The foundation stone for the hospital was laid by the then Chief Minister Sh.
