&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;Edappadi&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039; (also spelt &amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;Edappadi&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039; or &amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;Idappadi&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;) is one of the developing towns and a  [[municipality]] in [[Salem district]]  in the state of [[Tamil Nadu]], [[India]].  Edappdi was once known for its thriving powerloom industry.  The economy is diversified.  The main modes of income are agriculture, lorry &amp;amp; heavy truck transport, granite, textile powerloom, entertainment and foundry.  &lt;br /&gt;

The name is derived from a group of family names &amp;#039;Edayar&amp;#039; (means the people who survived with Cow, Buffalo and house animals). &lt;br /&gt;

Sarbanka river originating from [[Shevaroy Hills]] passes through Edappadi town. With developments and urbanisation the river has dried and now it&amp;#039;s more of a sewage canal.  River Cauvery is 6&amp;amp;nbsp;km away from Edappadi.  &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Water is supplied by the Cauvery river and &amp;#039;Periya-yeri&amp;#039; (Big-lake) near Edappadi.  It is surrounded by many lakes like, Periyayeri, ChettiYeri, Punka-yeri, Reddipatti-Yeri, Kavadikaranoor-Yeri (Aachampalli Yeri). &lt;br /&gt;

Still this mountain doesn&amp;#039;t have any plants due to its rocky and unusual properties.  The research done by Periyar University Geologist shows it consist of rare radioactive minerals.  Edappadi has a variable terrain.  Sankagiri - Edappadi route via Veerappam Palayam and Sunnambukkuttai is rocky.  &lt;br /&gt;

Located in the Salem district of the state, Edappadi is one of the most important textile areas. It is situated 34&amp;amp;nbsp;km from Salem. River Sarabanga, Soriyankaradu mountain which is 5&amp;amp;nbsp;km away from the town are the major geographical features of this region.&lt;br /&gt;

The economy of the town revolves around the manufacture of towels and lungies.  &lt;br /&gt;

Most of the population is depending on Agriculture &amp;amp; Power Loom weaving. There are thousands of power looms standing idle due to a workforce that is focussed on migrating to other towns is search of higher pay in other industries.&lt;br /&gt;
Lack of irrigation projects has led to frequent draughts even though a large river (Cauvery) flows just 10&amp;amp;nbsp;km from the town. Now Former Chief Minister [[Edappadi K.
