==Early career==
Kapoor joined the [[Royal Indian Navy]] (RIN) as a cadet in 1935, and was commissioned a [[Midshipman|midshipman]] on 1 September 1936.<ref name="Navy_List_37">{{cite book |date=1937 |title=The Navy List: October 1937|chapter=The Royal Indian Navy|publisher=H.M. ==Post-Independence==
Following [[Indian Independence Act 1947|Indian independence]], Kapoor was promoted acting commander (substantive lieutenant-commander) on 30 June 1948.<ref>{{cite web|title=Promotions of Officers in the R.
