Former ruling [[Sikkim Democratic Front|SDF]] participated in the Sikkim Legislative Assembly election as the opposition for the first time in 25 years. Opposition [[Sikkim National People’s Party|SNPP]]&lt;ref&gt;SNPP was established on 10 October, 2008, but its registration had not been passed by [[Election Commission of India|ECI]] till 25 September, 2019.&lt;/ref&gt; and [[Sikkim Republican Party|SRP]] sent their candidates to Gangtok for the first time.
