There is a [[Mahathwar]] village inside the Ghanshyampur Panchayat, which Mahathwar village comes under [[Ghanshyampur Assembly constituency|Ghanshyampur block]] and it is located 3 km south of the block office. It is bound on the east by the Shambhu chowk,&amp;lt;ref&amp;gt;https://wikimapia.org/10120736/Shambhoo-Chowk-Mahathwar&amp;lt;/ref&amp;gt; on the north by [[Pali, Darbhanga|Pali]] village and on the south by Chaur (or low lying agricultural land filled up by flood water) and on the west by Hari Mushari tola and [[Galma, Darbhanga|Galma]] village.&lt;br /&gt;

In the [[Bihar Assembly Election, Oct 2005|October 2005 state assembly elections]], Izhar Ahmad of [[Lok Janshakti Party|LJP]] won the Ghanshyampur assembly seat defeating his nearest rival Dr. Mahabir Prasad of [[Rashtriya Janata Dal|RJD]]. Contests in most years were multi cornered but only winners and runners are being mentioned. Dr. Mahabir Prasad of RJD defeated Izhar Ahmed of LJP/ [[Janata Dal (United)|JD(U)]] in [[Bihar Assembly Election, Feb 2005|February 2005]] and 2000. Mahabir Prasad of [[Janata Dal|JD]] defeated Chandra Kishore Jha of [[Bharatiya Janata Party|BJP]]/ [[Indian National Congress|Congress]] in 1995 and 1990. Mahabir Prasad of [[Lok Dal|LD]] defeated Harish Chandra Jha of Congress in 1985. Mahendra Narayan Jha of Congress defeated Mahabir Prasad of Janata Party (Secular – Charan Singh) in 1980.
