Gukesh was born on 29 May 2006 in [[Chennai]], Tamil Nadu. In February 2023, Gukesh participated in the first edition of the WR Masters tournament in [[Düsseldorf]], where he finished on 5½/9, tying for first place with [[Levon Aronian]] and [[Ian Nepomniachtchi]]. He came second to Aronian in the tiebreaks.

In August 2023, Gukesh participated in the [[Chess World Cup 2023]].
