&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;Horace Arthur Rose&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039; (25 November 1867 – 18 September 1933) was an administrator in the [[Indian Civil Service]] and also an author of works related to India in the time of the [[British Raj]].&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Rose was the son of a merchant from [[East Grinstead]] and was born on 25 November 1867.&amp;lt;ref name=Venn&amp;gt;{{acad|id= RS886HA |name=Rose, Horace Arthur}}&amp;lt;/ref&amp;gt; He was educated at [[St Paul&amp;#039;s School, London|St Paul&amp;#039;s School]] and at [[Emmanuel College, Cambridge]], where he arrived from his home in Wallingford, [[Surrey]]&amp;lt;!--NB: this is per Venn, but I know only of Wallingford, Oxfordshire--&amp;gt; with the award of a scholarship.&amp;lt;ref name=Venn/&amp;gt;&amp;lt;ref&amp;gt;{{cite journal |title=Honours |journal=The Pauline |volume=IV |issue=19 |date=March 1886 |publisher=St Paul&amp;#039;s School |location=London |page=433 |url=https://books.google.com/books?id=IvAHAAAAQAAJ}}&amp;lt;/ref&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;

Rose passed the competitive examination for the Indian Civil Service in 1886 and arrived in India on 4&lt;br /&gt;
October 1888.
