The design of the coach was developed by [[Integral Coach Factory]], [[Perambur]], [[Chennai]], [[India]] in collaboration with the [[Schweizerische Wagons- und Aufzügefabrik AG Schlieren-Zürich|Swiss Car &amp;amp; Elevator Manufacturing Co]], [[Schlieren, Switzerland]] in the 1950s.{{Citation needed|date=June 2023}} The design is also called the &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Schlieren design&amp;#039;&amp;#039; based on the location of the Swiss company.{{Citation needed|date=June 2023}}&lt;br /&gt;

The 1st ICF coach had been flagged by then Prime Minister [[Jawaharlal Nehru]] on 2 October 1955.
